Welcome to the opening seminar of the project “Travelling linguistic resources: onward migration within a language community” (“Språkliga resurser i rörelse: vidare migration från Sverige till Svenskfinland”, Society for Swedish Literature in Finland, 2026-2029). The project is carried out by Research Fellow Linda Bäckman, at the Migration Institute of Finland and Åbo Akademi University (Swedish department).

The seminar will introduce the starting points of the project, situated between migration studies and applied linguistics. The project examines what happens to language in onward migration within a linguistic community but over national borders, more specifically when people who have previously immigrated to Sweden move on to Swedish-speaking Finland.

A commentary is given by Ahmed Hassan, chair of the NordicSom association. The seminar language is English.
