Finnish Expatriate Survey 2025 is now open! Respond by December 14, 2025!
Migration Institute of Finland has launched a new survey for Finns living abroad. The large-scale study seeks to enhance knowledge of the life situations and needs of expatriate Finns in order to inform research, service development, and policymaking.
The survey is conducted online and welcomes responses from Finns around the world in diverse life situations. The survey is open to Finnish citizens, people of Finnish origin, and anyone who identifies as Finnish. Participation is anonymous, and the survey can be completed in Finnish, Swedish, or English.
In addition to background information, the survey looks at respondents’ life situations, well-being, social networks, civic and political engagement, and communication and media habits. By taking part, Finns living abroad provide valuable insights into how global Finnish community looks like today, how they relate to Finland and Finnish identity, and what kinds of needs and challenges they encounter in their everyday transnational lives.
The survey builds on the Migration Institute of Finland’s first Changing Finnish Expatriatism study conducted in 2020. The new survey project is funded by the Ministry of the Interior, and its findings will support the preparation of Finland’s next strategy on expatriate finns. A report (in Finnish) based on the survey data will be published in spring 2026 in the Migration Institute of Finland’s Reports series.
You can respond to the survey by Sunday, December 14, 2025 at: https://link.webropolsurveys.com/S/87D03D77923914F9
