Call for Papers: Migration-Muuttoliike Theme Issue (2/2025): Migration and Digitalization

The Migration-Muuttoliike journal is published twice per year by the Migration Institute of Finland, with the aim of bringing topics of interest to the attention of decision-makers, researchers and others working with these topics.

The theme of the next issue of the journal is “Migration and Digitalization.” Digital technologies are fundamentally reshaping the world, and migration is no exception. In the context of migration, digitalization plays a multifaceted role, ranging from individuals’ everyday lives and new forms of work to broader issues of migration regulation and control. Digitalization and new technologies also generate novel types of data and research methods that reshape how migration is studied, but which also present a range of new challenges.

We welcome research-based articles, shorter texts and experience-based perspectives/commentaries and book reviews on the topic of “Migration and Digitalization” to be considered for publication in the next journal issue. Articles should be 3–7 pages long (12 000–28 000 characters including spaces), and other texts and book reviews 1-3 pages (4 000–12 000 characters including spaces). Submissions are accepted in Finnish, Swedish, or English.

Please send a brief abstract (150-200 words) indicating also the format of your proposed text to tuire.liimatainen@migrationinstitute.fi and saara.pellander@migrationinstitute.fi by 26 May 2025. We will notify authors of acceptance decisions by 9 June, and the first drafts of the texts are due by 18 August. The theme issue will be published in November 2025.
