TRIM is a transdisciplinary project which explores the capability of the Finnish immigration system to integrate foreign-background people (both from abroad and already in Finland) in the Finnish education and labour market in an economically sustainable and just way, and implements steps to improve the system.

The project focuses on transitions—that is, individual study and career paths—as well as the institutional structures that either support or hinder these transitions. The research analyzes the functioning, performance, and capacity for renewal of competence‑based and human‑rights‑based systems. In addition, the project implements interventions and develops technological and organizational solutions that improve transitions and strengthen the effectiveness of the immigration system.

The consortium is led by the University of Jyväskylä, and in addition to the Migration Institute of Finland, it includes the Labour Institute for Economic Research (LABORE), the VATT Institute for Economic Research, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
