We award grants for migration research
The Migration Institute of Finland manages three funds from where the profit is used to support Finnish migration research and documentation. All the funds are based on donations made to the Migration Institute of Finland. Our three grant funds are:
The Kaarle Hjalmar Lehtinen Fund
In December 1982, a Finnish-American, Kaarle Hjalmar Lehtinen, made a donation of USD 100,000 to the Migration Institute of Finland, and this money has been invested in a fund bearing his name. The purpose of the fund is to support research on Finnish migration, especially to North America, and to finance the institute’s work in documentation, research, publications, exhibitions and congresses.
The Niilo and Helen Alho Fund
In August 1996, Florida-based building contractor Niilo S. Alho and his wife Helen M. Alho made a donation of USD 112,500 to the Migration Institute of Finland to be invested in a fund bearing their names. The purpose of the fund is to support, by means of grants and other vehicles, migration research, documentation, publishing, exhibitions and international cooperation.
The Olavi Koivukangas Fund
The fund is used to support research on Finnish migration especially to the southern hemisphere and publishing, exhibitions and other such cultural activities.
