Brinkkala Gallery (Vanha Suurtori 3, Turku) 7th of December, from 3 to 5 PM
Joy is a gift stashed at the year’s end—in the glow of Christmas trees and the twinkling wishes that lurch like candles, sending their light to mark the beginning of another chapter upon the ledge of a bygone year.
Endings are the flipped side of fresh beginnings, brimming with hope and a vibrant breeze. Just like the enchanting sunsets over seas—where endings and beginnings merge to form the beach.
We behold endings in the dazzling autumn when summer fades, endings unfold onto a realm of beauty—the solace of goodbye—as a year of our life passes by.
We warmly invite you to our Open Mic event at Brinkkala Gallery, part of the exhibition “Echoes of Endings” and the project “Endings: Refuge, Time and Space,” funded by the Kone Foundation and hosted by the Migration Institute of Finland.
Together, we will share our verbal arts—poetry, prose, and lyrics—as we explore the many dimensions of endings.
Each participant will have a 5-minute slot to perform. While all themes are welcome, we encourage you to bring pieces that resonate with the theme of endings (not mandatory). There’s no pressure to create something inspired by the exhibition, but if you arrive early, you’ll have the chance to explore it. The adjoining café is the perfect space to let inspiration take shape—transform your feelings into words.
Later, Ahmed Zaidan will guide an immersive poetic tour through the exhibition’s highlights. This will be a wonderful opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and build networks. To cap off the evening, we’ll head for a drink to reflect on the event and the year as a whole.
We can’t wait to see you there!
This event is part of the art and research project ‘Endings – Refuge, Time, and Space’ conducted at the Migration Institute of Finland (funded by the Kone Foundation, 2023–2026). The event is produced in cooperation with the Brinkkala Gallery.
