Researchers:

The project examines how immigration control affects intimate relationships and how intimate relationships affect immigration control. The negative effects of living with the threat of deportation extend beyond foreign nationals. They also affect their Finnish partners, families and friends. The study finds out how borders and immigration control and intimate life circles are linked. It is based on ethnographic fieldwork (observation, interviews) in the close circle of foreign citizens who are in a relationship with a Finnish citizen and whose right of residence is uncertain. In addition, the project investigates immigration authorities and the decisions of the authorities. The research offers tools for examining the effects of the tightening immigration policy.
